Embark on a memorable family adventure through the breathtaking Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in south central Montana, adjacent to the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park. Our horseback pack-trips offer unparalleled access to millions of acres of pristine wilderness, ensuring fun for the whole family.

Grizzly Creek Camp

July 15 – August 30: We reach this semi-permanent tent camp in the heart of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area after a 16-mile ride over majestic Wallace Pass. This is one of our most popular and spectacular areas with cutthroat trout fishing in nearby Carpenter Lake, Grizzly Creek and Hellroaring Creek. We take four to seven day trips into this camp. Rates for pack trips are $450 per person per day plus gratuities*.

Travel Camps

July 21 – August 24: We offer travel trips into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness that offer a rustic view of the backcountry. Guests stay in dome tents, enjoy home-cooked meals, and a pit toilet in each camp. While in camp, guests can enjoying lake or stream fishing, hiking, horseback rides or just enjoy camp camaraderie around the fire. We can start our travel trips from Slough Creek in Yellowstone Park or our Grizzly Creek Camp. Rates for travel trips are $500 per person per day plus gratuities.*


Buffalo Fork Camp: We ride from Grizzly Creek camp over spectacular Hummingbird Pass and down through Telephone Basin to our camp on Buffalo Fork Meadows.


Slough Creek Camp: We ride over Buffalo Fork Divide to get to our Slough Creek camp. You can fish the world famous Slough Creek for cutthroat trout, see Frenchy’s historic homestead, and take rides to Cutoff Mountain.

4-Day Trips


Our 4-day, three-night trips most often go into our Grizzly Creek Camp. Longer trips are available as well.

7-Day Trips


Three nights at Grizzly Creek and three nights at Buffalo Fork, or Three nights at Slough Creek and three nights at Buffalo Fork Meadows.

10-Day Trips


Three nights at Grizzly Creek, three nights at Buffalo Fork, and three nights at Slough Creek.

What to Bring?

Weight Limit: 30 lbs


This list is for guidance only. Temperatures will probably range from 40° to 90°F. We provide cots and foam pads in Grizzly Creek camp. Pack all of your belongings in a stout duffle or side zipper bag marked with your name and address. Plastic freezer bags are handy pack articles and keep them clean and dry. Bring only what you are sure you are going to need. Go light and enjoy the trip!

  • Warm, lightweight sleeping bag
  • Rain gear – jacket and pants
  • 1 liter or larger canteen or water bottle
  • Riding boots or laced boots for riding, well broken in hiking boots for side trips, slip-on shoes for in camp (Vibram soled shoes/boots not recommended for riding)
  • Gaiters for walking through wet grass
  • Sweater/fleece and warm jacket
  • Broad-brimmed hat (straw or felt), gloves, neckerchief
  • Trousers or blue jeans (if softened) – 2 pair
  • Two or three shirts
  • Several pairs of socks – at least one wool
  • Warm sweatpants or thermal underwear and shirt with a hood for sleeping
  • Soap, towels, washcloths
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Lip balm to prevent chapped lips
  • Headlight or flashlight and extra batteries
  • Hand lotion
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Prescription medicine
  • Camera and extra batteries
  • Pocket knife and matches
  • Fishing tackle – Fishing rods must be in metal or plastic cases not exceeding 42”. We recommend #4 or #5 weight for fly rods. If possible, purchase your flies and lures at a local fly shop.
